RentalHistory.net is based on an old idea of keeping a list of bad renters and sharing it with other landlords. In the past it was a lot of work keeping up with everyone's list and then distributing it back to everyone. You could see immediately how tiring and non-secure this type of process was. We believe that's why the idea did not work before, even with most of us thinking it should have.
With the internet and the ease of compiling databases now, it is much easier. We believe in this concept and have checked with multiple attorneys to make sure of the legalities. We are not sharing a single piece of information to the public, this is a completely private, member-only, password-protected database of tenant info. Last four of their SSN, tenant DOB, name and notes are all that the database asks for. Landlord's identities are kept private as well and we even employ a full-time rentalhistory.net moderator who monitors all notes and entries into our national database.
